Michigan capitalized on Alabama’s early mistakes, forcing three turnovers in the first quarter. The Wolverines converted these opportunities into a 16-0 lead, with kicker Dominic Zvada contributing three field goals from 45, 30, and 21 yards, and quarterback Davis Warren connecting with Fredrick Moore for a 13-yard touchdown pass.
Alabama responded in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 16-10 by halftime. Quarterback Jalen Milroe threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to tight end Robbie Ouzts, followed by a 24-yard field goal from Graham Nicholson.
The second half was largely a defensive battle. Michigan extended their lead to 19-10 with a 37-yard field goal by Zvada in the fourth quarter. Alabama’s Nicholson answered with a 51-yard field goal, but the Crimson Tide couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Michigan’s defense was instrumental, limiting Alabama to 260 total yards and forcing three turnovers. Freshman running back Jordan Marshall, stepping up due to opt-outs, rushed for 100 yards on 23 carries, earning MVP honors.
Alabama’s offense struggled, particularly in the running game, managing only 68 rushing yards. Milroe completed 16 of 32 passes for 192 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. His mobility was contained, resulting in just seven rushing yards on 16 attempts.
This victory marked Michigan’s second consecutive bowl win over Alabama, following their overtime triumph in the 2024 Rose Bowl. The Wolverines concluded their season with an 8-5 record, while Alabama finished at 9-4, missing a 10-win season for the first time in 16 years.
