DEAL ACCEPTED: Rangers has completed a stunning deal to sign a new forward, Riyad Mahrez as free agent from…..
Rangers have reportedly reached an agreement to bring experienced Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez to Ibrox as a free agent, in what would represent a major addition to their attacking options. Mahrez became available after Al Ahli confirmed his departure in July 2026 following the expiration of his contract. The former Manchester City star spent three seasons in Saudi Arabia, making 122 appearances, scoring 37 goals and providing 46 assists across competitions.
The possibility of Mahrez arriving at Rangers would immediately attract significant attention because of his outstanding experience at the highest level of European football. Before moving to Al Ahli in 2023, the Algerian enjoyed a highly successful spell with Manchester City, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most technically gifted attacking players. His ability to operate from the right side, cut inside and create opportunities could provide Rangers with another creative option in the final third.
For Rangers, a player with Mahrez’s experience would represent a different type of attacking option. His record at Al Ahli shows that he remained capable of contributing goals and assists after leaving English football. During his three seasons with the Saudi club, he helped them win the AFC Champions League Elite in consecutive seasons and also contributed to their Saudi Super Cup success in 2025.
The reported move would also give Rangers the opportunity to add considerable international and European experience to their squad. Mahrez has played in major domestic and continental competitions throughout his career, while his time with Manchester City included regular involvement in Champions League football. His arrival would therefore bring not only attacking quality but also a wealth of experience that could be valuable during demanding domestic and European fixtures.
However, despite the growing transfer speculation surrounding the Algerian, an official Rangers announcement confirming Mahrez as a new signing would be required before the deal can be treated as completed. What is established is that Mahrez left Al Ahli after his contract expired in June 2026, making him a free agent and potentially available for clubs seeking an experienced attacking player. If Rangers were ultimately to complete the move, it would become one of the most eye-catching free-agent additions of the season.
