DEAL ACCEPTED: Coventry City has officially completed a stunning deal to sign a new forward, Riyad Mahrez as free agent from…..

Coventry City have reportedly reached an agreement to bring experienced Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez to the Coventry Building Society Arena as a free agent, in what would represent a major addition to their attacking options. Mahrez became available after leaving Al Ahli in July 2026 following the end of his contract with the Saudi club. The former Manchester City star spent three seasons in Saudi Arabia, making 122 appearances, scoring 37 goals and providing 46 assists across competitions.

The possibility of Mahrez arriving at Coventry City would immediately attract significant attention because of his outstanding experience at the highest level of European football. Before moving to Al Ahli in 2023, the Algerian enjoyed a highly successful spell with Manchester City, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most technically gifted attacking players. His ability to operate from the right side, cut inside and create opportunities could provide Coventry City with another creative option in the final third.

For Coventry City, a player with Mahrez’s experience would represent a different type of attacking option. His record at Al Ahli shows that he continued to contribute goals and assists after leaving English football. During his three seasons with the Saudi club, he helped them win the AFC Champions League Elite in consecutive seasons. His previous experience in the Premier League could also make a return to England particularly interesting for both the player and Coventry supporters.

The reported move would give Coventry City the opportunity to add considerable international and European experience to their squad. Mahrez has played in major domestic and continental competitions throughout his career, while his Manchester City spell included regular Champions League football and numerous major trophies. His arrival would therefore bring not only attacking experience but also a wealth of knowledge from competing at the highest level.

However, despite the transfer speculation surrounding the Algerian, an official Coventry City announcement confirming Mahrez as a new signing would be required before the deal could be treated as completed. As of the latest reports, Mahrez remains a free agent, with his next destination still subject to uncertainty. If Coventry City were ultimately to complete the move, it would represent a high-profile free-agent addition and give the club another experienced attacking option.
