Owen Wafle’s brief tenure at Michigan has officially concluded, as the talented defensive lineman has opted to transfer to Penn State. Arriving in Ann Arbor as a highly-touted recruit, Wafle redshirted during the 2024 season and did not see any game action. Despite his limited on-field experience, he brings significant potential and retains all four years of eligibility, positioning himself as a valuable long-term asset for the Nittany Lions.

Wafle’s decision to transfer came shortly after the 2024 season wrapped up, entering the portal on January 2nd. His transfer journey included visits to prominent programs like Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Rutgers, and North Carolina, each presenting compelling opportunities. Ultimately, Wafle chose Penn State, a program known for its strong defensive development and consistent competition at the highest levels of college football.

Penn State’s defensive line received another boost earlier in the day when standout defensive tackle Zane Durant announced his return for the 2025 season. By opting to forgo the NFL Draft, Durant demonstrated his confidence in Penn State’s championship potential for 2025. The addition of Wafle further strengthens a defensive line unit poised to be one of the nation’s best, providing depth and competition.

Adding another layer of intrigue to Wafle’s commitment is the recruitment of his younger brother, Luke Wafle. A four-star edge rusher from The Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, Luke is a top prospect for the class of 2026. He is being heavily courted by the same programs Owen visited, including Penn State. Securing Owen could be a strategic advantage in attracting Luke, potentially bolstering the Nittany Lions’ future defensive line.

Penn State fans have plenty to be excited about with the latest addition to their roster. With Zane Durant leading the charge and Owen Wafle ready to contribute, the Nittany Lions’ defensive line is shaping up to be a key component in their pursuit of a national championship.
