Vikings Fan Spells Out Rivalry: Fifth-Grader Refuses to Write Jordan Love on Test

A fifth-grade student in Champlin, Minnesota, took his love for the Minnesota Vikings to a whole new level during a recent spelling test. Bennett Gulland, a die-hard Vikings fan, was given an extra credit word on his test: Jordan Love, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. But instead of spelling his teacher’s chosen word correctly, Bennett proudly spelled “Sam Darnold,” the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback, instead.

Bennett’s father, Nick Gulland, shared the story with FOX 9, explaining that his son had a playful rivalry with his teacher, a Packers fan, throughout the season. The friendly banter escalated when the teacher offered the Jordan Love extra credit word.

Although Bennett lost the extra point for his creative choice, his father couldn’t help but laugh and admire his son’s loyalty to the Vikings. “He explained to me that as a Vikings fan, he just couldn’t bring himself to write Jordan Love. So, he wrote Sam Darnold instead. I found it hilarious! I’m proud of him for taking his fandom to that level,” Nick told FOX 9.

Bennett’s decision certainly shows that when it comes to team loyalty, some fans will go the extra mile—even if it means losing a point on a test.
