The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs narrowly defeated the No. 2 Texas Longhorns 22-19 in a dramatic overtime victory at the SEC Championship Game on Saturday in Atlanta. Georgia sealed the win with a four-yard rushing touchdown by Trevor Etienne on their first overtime possession, eclipsing Texas’ preceding field goal.

Among the high-profile spectators at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was Texas alumnus and passionate Longhorns supporter Matthew McConaughey. The Oscar-winning actor spent much of the game on the Longhorns’ sidelines, even sharing a moment with Alabama head coach Nick Saban, which caught the attention of broadcasters. After the heartbreaking loss, cameras captured a subdued McConaughey walking up the stadium tunnel alongside Texas players and staff, his disappointment evident.

A viral clip of the moment, shared on social media, has already garnered over three million views. The video with a play on McConaughey’s famous catchphrase: “Matthew McConaughey is not alright, alright, alright.”

Following the game, McConaughey addressed the loss with a brief post on social media: “Hurts today. Mission continues. See you in two weeks. #HookEm.”

Despite the setback, Texas (11-2) remains in contention for the College Football Playoff. The Longhorns are expected to secure a spot in the 12-team field but will play in the first round on Dec. 20-21. Georgia (11-2), meanwhile, earned a first-round bye with the victory, solidifying their place as a formidable contender.

Saturday’s win also marked Georgia’s second triumph over Texas this season, following a commanding 30-15 victory in Austin on Oct. 19 when the Longhorns were ranked No. 1.
