Shocking Twist: Former Alabama 5-Star Shakes Up College Football With Stunning Big Ten Move!

The Alabama Crimson Tide experienced several decommitments from their 2025 recruiting class, with one of the most notable prospects now securing his new destination. Five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood revealed during his National Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday that he will be joining Michigan. The Denton, Texas, native was the last unsigned five-star recruit in ESPN’s rankings going into signing day, but he has now committed to playing in Ann Arbor.

Haywood received offers from numerous top-tier programs, including Florida State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. Despite these options, he initially committed to Alabama in July, a decision that significantly boosted the Crimson Tide’s 2025 recruiting class. At the time of his commitment, Alabama’s class climbed to the No. 1 spot in On3 Sports’ rankings.

However, concerns arose when Haywood chose not to sign with Alabama during the Early Signing Period in December. His hesitation sparked speculation that he might reconsider his commitment, and those suspicions were confirmed when he officially decommitted on January 13. Michigan quickly emerged as the leading candidate to secure his commitment, and on Wednesday, he made his decision official. Now, Haywood joins an elite Michigan recruiting class that includes top quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood, whom he will be responsible for protecting against Big Ten defenses in the coming years.

Losing Haywood was a significant setback for Alabama, as he was the highest-rated player to decommit from their 2025 class. Nevertheless, the Crimson Tide managed to strengthen their offensive line by securing commitments from two four-star offensive tackles—Jackson Lloyd from Carmel, California, and Mal Waldrep from Phenix City, Alabama. Additionally, Alabama bolstered its depth at the position through the transfer portal by bringing in Arkel Anugwom from Ball State.

While Haywood’s departure marks a notable loss for Alabama, Michigan’s recruiting class gains a premier talent who will play a crucial role in its offensive line. His addition further strengthens a Wolverines squad that is positioning itself for long-term success in the Big Ten. Meanwhile, Alabama continues to adjust its roster, ensuring they remain competitive despite losing a top recruit.
