The Detroit Red Wings have solidified their commitment to emerging talent by inking 31-year-old right wing Dominik Shine to a two-year NHL contract, spanning the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Shine, previously a standout with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, is set to join the Red Wings’ roster immediately, marking a significant step in his professional journey.

Shine’s AHL Excellence Earns NHL Opportunity

During the 2024-25 campaign with Grand Rapids, Shine emerged as an offensive force, tallying 11 goals and a team-high 21 assists for 32 points across 40 games—placing him atop the Griffins’ scoring charts. His dynamic playmaking and reliability on the ice not only cemented his role as a leader in the AHL but also caught the attention of Detroit’s management. The Michigan-born forward’s blend of experience and productivity made him an undeniable candidate for an NHL promotion.

Red Wings Bet on Shine’s Versatility and Leadership

By securing Shine’s services, the Red Wings highlight their focus on integrating seasoned prospects into their rebuild. General Manager Steve Yzerman emphasized Shine’s “professionalism and two-way impact” as vital traits for the team’s evolving core. While Shine’s age defies the typical prospect mold, his recent performance underscores a player peaking at the right time, offering Detroit a cost-effective asset with potential to slot into bottom-six roles or provide depth scoring.

As the Red Wings aim to accelerate their climb up the Eastern Conference standings, Shine’s arrival adds depth to a forward group eager to blend youth with maturity. Fans will watch closely to see if the late-blooming winger can translate his AHL success into NHL contributions during this pivotal phase for the franchise.
