Penn State Hit Hard: Two Four-Star Recruits Make Shocking Exit to Transfer Portal

The Penn State Nittany Lions have experienced a tough start to the offseason, with two notable players entering the transfer portal. Wide receiver Mehki Flowers and cornerback Cam Miller, both former four-star recruits, are leaving the program following a season-ending loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The transfer portal is set to play a significant role in the Nittany Lions’ offseason strategy, with more departures likely on the horizon.

Mehki Flowers Moves On

Wide receiver Mehki Flowers has officially entered the transfer portal, as reported by Pete Nakos of On3sports. Flowers, who also played at safety during his time at Penn State, did not see much action on the field. He recorded two tackles in the 2023 season while playing on defense but did not contribute during the 2024 season.

As a former four-star recruit, Flowers enters the transfer portal with potential but limited college tape to showcase his abilities. His next move will be crucial as he looks to make an impact at a new program and prove his worth on the field.

Cam Miller Joins the Transfer Portal

Joining Flowers in the transfer portal is cornerback Cam Miller. Another four-star recruit, Miller made more of an impact during his tenure with the Nittany Lions. Over three seasons, Miller accumulated 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, and an interception. His most productive season came in 2023, where he posted 24 tackles, three sacks, and a pass defended, along with an interception.

In the 2024 season, Miller continued to contribute, tallying 27 tackles, five passes defended, and a sack. His consistent performance and experience at the collegiate level make him an attractive option for other programs looking for a proven defensive player.

The Impact of the Transfer Portal

While the loss of players like Flowers and Miller is never easy, it reflects the current landscape of college football, where player movement via the transfer portal has become the norm. For Penn State, these departures open the door to bringing in new talent and reshaping the roster.

The Nittany Lions will be closely monitoring the portal to replenish their ranks and continue building a competitive team. As more players enter and exit, the focus will remain on strengthening the squad for the upcoming season and making another run at the College Football Playoff.
