Patrick Mahomes Active and Armed with New Weapon Against Texans

As expected, Patrick Mahomes is officially active for Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans. Despite head coach Andy Reid’s cautious remarks on Friday, suggesting Mahomes would “most likely” play, there was little doubt after the star quarterback fully participated in practice all week without an injury designation.

Mahomes enters the matchup completing 66.7% of his passes this season, racking up 3,348 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He will have an additional weapon at his disposal, as receiver Hollywood Brown is set to make his Kansas City debut. Brown, sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained during the preseason, signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs this offseason and is ready to contribute.

Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal, who was added to the injury report on Friday with an illness, is also active. Kansas City’s inactives include defensive back Chamarri Conner, defensive end Joshua Uche, offensive linemen C.J. Hanson and Ethan Driskell, left tackle D.J. Humphries, defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu, and defensive end Malik Herring.

On the Texans’ side, linebacker Christian Harris, listed as questionable with an ankle injury, is active. However, Houston will be without receiver John Metchie, linebacker Devin White, defensive end Jerry Hughes, guard Nick Broeker, offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, tight end Cade Stover, and defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi.

Having already secured the AFC West, Kansas City can clinch the AFC’s No. 1 seed with a win over the Texans and a Buffalo loss to New England this weekend.
