The Oklahoma Sooners have made a significant splash in the transfer portal by reportedly landing Marvin Jones Jr., a former 5-star recruit. Jones began his collegiate career at Georgia before transferring to Florida State for the 2024 season, and now, he’s set to join the Sooners’ defense.
Jones spent several days visiting Oklahoma’s campus this week, ultimately choosing the Sooners over other suitors, including Texas. His decision marks a pivotal addition to Oklahoma’s defense, which has been seeking a standout player to bolster its ranks.
During his time at Georgia, Jones played in 25 games across the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He contributed as a reserve linebacker and special teams player on the Bulldogs’ National Championship team in 2022. In 2023, he played in 12 games, recording 12 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.
In 2024, Jones transferred to Florida State, where he had a breakout season despite the Seminoles’ 2-10 record. He tallied 25 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble, and three quarterback hurries.
Jones entered the transfer portal on December 11 and, after evaluating his options, chose to sign with Oklahoma. His addition is expected to provide a significant boost to the Sooners’ defensive unit as they aim to strengthen their presence on the national stage.
