The 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class was announced on Wednesday and it includes plenty of highly-recognizable names such as Texas Southern defensive lineman Michael Strahan, Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick and legendary coaches Nick Saban and Urban Meyer.
But Notre Dame fans will also recognize Terry Hanratty — an All-American quarterback who suited up for the Fighting Irish in the late 1960s and helped lead them to a national title 1966.
Hanratty is the 56th former Notre Dame student-athlete or coach in the College Football Hall of Fame, which is the most for any college football program.
Hanratty threw for over 1,200 yards in each of his three seasons as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback and set Notre Dame career records for pass completions (304), passing yards (4,152) and passing touchdowns (27). He also rushed for 586 yards and 16 touchdowns.
After graduating from Notre Dame, Hanratty played eight seasons in the NFL, where he won two Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a backup quarterback.
Hanratty, along with the rest of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class, will be officially inducted on Dec. 9.
