NFL Agent Addresses Rumors Surrounding Quinn Ewers and Transfer Portal

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has yet to publicly announce his plans for the 2025 season, leaving the door open for several possibilities. The junior from Southlake, Texas could declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, return to Texas for another season, or transfer to another program. Ewers is currently focused on preparing for the College Football Playoff, with No. 5 Texas set to face No. 12 Clemson in the first round at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on December 21.

Ewers entered the 2024 season as one of the top quarterback prospects for the 2025 draft, but despite leading Texas into the CFP, many mock drafts don’t have him as a first-round pick. Injuries to his shoulder and ankle have affected his performance at times throughout the season. Speculation has surfaced that Ewers could return for the 2025 season in hopes of improving his draft stock for the 2026 NFL Draft.

However, with Arch Manning waiting behind Ewers for two seasons, there are rumors that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian may opt to start Manning in 2025. On Thursday, NFL Rookie Watch, a social media account with nearly 160,000 followers, suggested that Texas may be ready to move on from Ewers and start Manning, potentially leading Ewers to transfer if he decides not to enter the 2025 draft. The account claimed that Ewers was “debating” returning to college football and bypassing the NFL Draft for another year, with the possibility of entering the transfer portal if Manning is named the starter.

Despite the rumors, Luke McMurtrey, an NFL agent with Sportstars, responded by dismissing the report as untrue, citing Ewers’ team.

For the 2024 season, Ewers has completed 233 of 352 passes (66.2% completion rate) for 2,665 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His 2023 season was marked by a higher completion rate of 69.0%, with 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Ewers faces an important decision regarding his future, with his next move likely to involve another top program if he decides to transfer.
