Netflix  Releases Date for Emotional Frank Broyles Documentary Honoring 1964 Championship Legacy

Netflix has officially announced the release date for its upcoming documentary honoring the late Arkansas Razorbacks coach, Frank Broyles. The film, simply titled “Frank: Legacy of a Razorback Legend,” is set to premiere on August 30, 2025, just days before the kickoff of the 2025 college football season. The documentary is expected to chronicle Broyles’s groundbreaking leadership, his unforgettable 1964 national championship season, and the indelible mark he left on college football.

The emotional project dives deep into the journey of the 1964 Arkansas Razorbacks, the only team in program history to finish a season undefeated and claim a national title. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, exclusive interviews with former players, fellow coaches, and family members, the documentary offers a vivid look at how Broyles built a powerhouse in Fayetteville. His ability to unify his team, instill a relentless work ethic, and overcome powerful opponents solidified his status as a legend in the sport.

Frank Broyles, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 92, coached the Razorbacks from 1958 to 1976 and remains the winningest coach in program history. Beyond the field, his influence extended into athletic administration and Alzheimer’s awareness advocacy, sparked by his wife Barbara’s battle with the disease. Netflix’s tribute doesn’t shy away from these personal elements, painting a holistic portrait of a man defined as much by his compassion and loyalty as by his strategic brilliance on the gridiron.

Executive producers behind the project said the documentary has been in development for more than two years, with close collaboration from the University of Arkansas and the Broyles family. “This is more than football,” said showrunner Craig Delano. “It’s about leadership, resilience, sacrifice, and love for the game—and Frank Broyles embodied all of it.” Fans can expect stirring locker room reenactments, slow-motion game sequences from the 1964 season, and moving personal moments that shine a light on Broyles’s legacy off the field.

The film also explores how Broyles helped launch the coaching careers of several now-legendary figures, including Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, and Joe Gibbs. Through Broyles’s coaching tree, his influence stretched far beyond Fayetteville and into the broader landscape of the NFL and college football. The documentary positions him not only as a symbol of Arkansas pride but as a foundational figure in shaping American football in the modern era.

With emotions running high across Razorback Nation, the announcement of the release has already sparked widespread reaction. Former players, fans, and even rival coaches have taken to social media to express anticipation and gratitude for the long-overdue spotlight on Broyles’s remarkable life. As the countdown begins for the August premiere, one thing is clear: “Frank: Legacy of a Razorback Legend” is set to be more than just a sports documentary—it will be a heartfelt reminder of what it means to lead, to believe, and to win with dignity.
