Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman delivered a powerful message to his team as they prepare for their historic playoff run, igniting excitement among Fighting Irish fans. With Notre Dame basking in the media spotlight following their impressive performances, Freeman’s words have become a rallying cry ahead of their Orange Bowl clash with Penn State.

Freeman’s Defining Message

During his Orange Bowl press conference, Freeman conveyed a succinct yet impactful message that encapsulates Notre Dame’s mission. Following a gritty 23-10 victory over Georgia, Freeman’s energy and passion were evident, both on the field and during his media appearance.

“Stay in the moment and win the moment. You can’t win the moment if you are not in the moment,” Freeman declared, emphasizing the importance of focus and presence.

A Lesson from Adversity

The Fighting Irish have been driven by a painful loss to Northern Illinois earlier in the season. Freeman frequently references this setback as a pivotal moment that reshaped the team’s mindset. Determined to avoid a similar disappointment, Freeman’s message to his team is clear: stay grounded and focused.

“We want team glory, yes. It’s one day, one life; one play, one life; one game. But most importantly, stay in the moment and win the moment,” Freeman reinforced.

Leadership and Culture

Freeman’s connection with his team captains has been a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s success. After returning to South Bend, the captains urged the team to remain focused and disregard external noise. Freeman praised their leadership, calling them an “extended version” of himself.

“The thing I respect about them most is the way they led when things weren’t going well,” Freeman said. “Culture is revealed in tough moments, and our captains have embodied that.”

Building Character

The loss to NIU has become a catalyst for growth within the team, reinforcing their resilience and unity. Freeman’s fiery message has resonated with players and fans alike, setting the stage for their highly anticipated showdown with Penn State.

As Notre Dame gears up for Thursday night’s semifinal, Freeman’s words continue to echo: “Stay in the moment and win the moment.” With this mindset, the Fighting Irish are poised to make history.
