Lamar Jackson has etched his name into NFL history as the most accomplished rushing quarterback of all time. In the Ravens’ dominant 31-2 victory over the Texans on Wednesday, Jackson surpassed Michael Vick’s long-standing record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback.
Jackson’s historic moment came on his final carry of the game, pushing his career total to 6,110 yards in just 102 games. By comparison, Vick set his mark over 143 games. With plenty of years ahead in his career, Jackson has ample opportunity to expand on this achievement.
“It feels unreal, to be honest with you,” Jackson said via the team’s transcript. “I just give God all the glory. I’m grateful, man, because that’s a record that’s been held for a long time with Michael Vick, one of my favorite players. That’s just dope.”
The night wasn’t just historic for the record books; Jackson showcased his trademark speed with a 48-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, clocking in at 21.25 mph — the fastest time of his career. Jackson joked he was “jogging” before calling it “crazy” to reach that speed en route to the end zone.
The Ravens are now poised to clinch the AFC North with a win over the Browns in Week 18. From there, the focus will shift to the ultimate prize missing from Jackson’s already impressive résumé: a Super Bowl title, which would solidify his place among the greatest to ever play the game.
