Romero, a two-time national champion with the Sooners and one of the most decorated players in program history, returns to Norman after making a name for herself both in professional softball and as a rising coaching star. Her appointment not only strengthens Oklahoma’s already stellar coaching staff under head coach Patty Gasso, but it also reaffirms the program’s commitment to tradition, leadership, and excellence.
During her playing career at Oklahoma from 2016 to 2019, Romero helped lead the Sooners to four consecutive Women’s College World Series appearances and two national titles. Her presence in the lineup was nothing short of iconic—she finished her career among the top five in multiple offensive categories, including hits, home runs, and RBIs. Beyond her stats, Romero’s leadership, grit, and ability to deliver in high-pressure moments made her a fan favorite and a respected figure across college softball.
Following her collegiate career, Romero was drafted third overall in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league and also played in Athletes Unlimited, continuing to prove her skills on a national stage. Her transition into coaching began shortly after, including a stint as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma and, more recently, as an assistant coach at Oregon and Duke.
