“If we had received the TV rights that we should have received…”: the response of Bastia, sanctioned by the DNCG

The president of the Sporting Club de Bastia appeared before the press this Thursday morning, the day after the announcement of the DNCG’s decision concerning the Corsican club, a Ligue 2 resident.

The troubles are piling up for the Sporting Club de Bastia. The Corsican club, already in turmoil after incidents during the last day of Ligue 2, received more bad news this Wednesday evening in the form of a decision statement from the DNCG, the financial watchdog of French professional football.

Sanctioned with a “regulation of the payroll and a ban on recruiting for a fee” as well as a “demotion as a precautionary measure at the end of the current sports season”, the Corsican club, currently 11th in Ligue 2, is in danger. Its president, Claude Ferrandi, appeared before the press this Thursday morning, armed with a few notes, to respond to this decision.

An answer that he began with a clear message: “The first thing I wanted to tell you is that if we had received the TV rights that we should have received, which had been planned at the start of the season, we would not be in front of you at this time.” The drop in TV revenue was a very hard blow for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs, the second French tier being broadcast by BeIN Sports for 40 million euros per year.

The Bastia president specifies that he “presented a revised budget as of October 31, 2024” which has “not been called into question by the DNCG”. “When we take stock of the products and sales, the DNCG finds that our balance sheet is in line with and in line with what a football club can present. »

After also justifying the lack of cash by the staggering of the payment of outgoing transfers (transfer fees are received over several seasons, and not in one go), Ferrandi concluded: “We have always done everything to avoid being in this impasse, but we knew it was going to happen.”
