I Think About It Every Day’: Jeremiah Smith’s Quest for Payback Against Oregon

In the lead-up to Ohio State’s Rose Bowl rematch against Oregon, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith remains resolute, reflecting on a pivotal moment from their previous encounter. In the October 12 matchup, a controversial offensive pass interference call against Smith significantly impacted the Buckeyes’ narrow 32-31 loss.

Late in the fourth quarter, with Ohio State trailing by one point, Smith’s reception brought the team within field goal range. However, the penalty pushed them back, hindering their comeback efforts. Analysts and fans criticized the call, with some deeming it questionable.

Smith has expressed his frustration, stating, “I guess wide receivers can’t play physical anymore.”

“I think about that call probably every day.”

This sentiment underscores his determination to make a significant impact in the upcoming game.

Throughout the season, Smith has been a standout performer for the Buckeyes, recording 63 receptions for 1,037 yards and 12 touchdowns. His contributions were instrumental in Ohio State’s recent victory over Tennessee, where he secured six receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

As the Rose Bowl approaches, Smith’s focus is on redemption and showcasing his abilities against Oregon. His performance will be crucial for Ohio State’s aspirations to advance in the College Football Playoff.
