Despite suffering a leg injury in a qualifying session, Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac battled through the 450 main event at Tampa’s SuperMotocross round, securing a 17th-place finish. The incident occurred when Tomac caught his leg under the bike’s foot peg during a jump, resulting in a sprained ankle and a bruised lower leg.
On Sunday, the team confirmed Tomac’s determination to compete at Round 6 in Detroit. “It was a brutal day,” Tomac stated. “After the crash, my ankle and leg took a hit, but I’m focused on recovering and doing whatever it takes to line up in Detroit.”
Team manager Rich Simmons described the mishap as a “freak accident,” noting Tomac’s resilience: “Eli’s foot got pinned between the peg and the ground, leaving him sore, but he toughed it out to earn crucial points. We’re all behind his recovery efforts.”
The team plans to evaluate Tomac’s condition leading up to Detroit, with updates expected as the event approaches.
