Eagles Make Final Call on Jalen Hurts Ahead of Sunday’s Matchup with Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without quarterback Jalen Hurts when they face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Hurts, a former Alabama standout, exited Philadelphia’s 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders in the second quarter last Sunday to be evaluated for a concussion and did not return. He has not practiced this week, and the Eagles officially ruled him out for Sunday’s pivotal NFC East matchup. Hurts’ absence will end his streak of 36 consecutive starts for Philadelphia, including the playoffs.

Since Hurts became the Eagles’ starting quarterback in 2021, the team has a remarkable 45-17 record in regular-season games he’s started, compared to 1-3 in games he hasn’t.

Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett replaced Hurts against Washington, completing 14-of-24 passes for 143 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Pickett, a 2022 first-round draft pick acquired by the Eagles in March, has been dealing with a rib injury but participated in practice this week.

With a 12-3 record, the Eagles have already secured a spot in the NFC playoffs. Following Sunday’s game against Dallas, they’ll wrap up their regular season at home against the New York Giants on Jan. 5.
