The Dallas Cowboys’ season has taken another hit as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will require season-ending knee surgery following an injury sustained during Monday night’s game against the Bengals. The 24-year-old was rolled up on a play, injuring his right knee, and the team has confirmed that surgery is necessary.
During his weekly interview, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his dismay over the situation. “We’re doing the MRI this morning, but we know that it will require surgery,” Jones said. With only four games left in the season, Overshown’s absence is certain to extend through the remainder of 2024. Jones did not rule out the possibility of the injury affecting the linebacker’s availability in 2025.
Overshown, in his second NFL season, has faced a string of bad luck. He missed his entire rookie year after tearing the ACL in his left knee during a preseason game. This latest setback marks the second major knee injury of his young career, presenting another long and arduous road to recovery.
“I don’t know the timeline for his rehab,” Jones added. “I just can’t tell you how bad I feel for him because he’s already been through the mental and physical challenges of rehabbing his other knee.”
The injury has deeply affected Overshown’s teammates, including star linebacker Micah Parsons, who became emotional when discussing the news. “He doesn’t deserve this. He really doesn’t,” Parsons said. “I know what he’s going to go through, mentally and physically. It’s so challenging, especially for someone as talented as him.”
The Cowboys fell to 5-8 after Monday night’s 27-20 loss, which was sealed by a botched blocked punt in the fourth quarter. With Overshown sidelined, Dallas faces even greater challenges in salvaging their season. For now, the team is focused on supporting Overshown through another tough recovery process.
