Cardinals GM Highlights Value of Ohio State Players in Building Winning Culture

Arizona Cardinals General Manager Monti Ossenfort recently praised Ohio State University’s football program, specifically highlighting how the organization values Buckeye players when building their roster.

“There’s something special about players coming out of Ohio State,” Ossenfort stated in a recent media session. “They’ve been battle-tested in one of college football’s most demanding environments and understand what it takes to win at the highest level.”

Ossenfort specifically emphasized how Ohio State’s practice culture prepares players for NFL competition. “The level of competition they face daily in practice at Ohio State mirrors what they’ll encounter on Sundays,” he explained. “That preparation is invaluable.”

The Cardinals’ roster currently features several Buckeye alumni, continuing a trend of NFL teams targeting Ohio State products. Last season, Ohio State tied for the most players on active NFL rosters with 57 former Buckeyes playing professionally.

Ossenfort also praised head coach Ryan Day’s program development. “Coach Day has built on the foundation there and continues producing not just talented players, but high-character individuals who understand winning cultures,” Ossenfort noted.

NFL analysts point to Ohio State’s consistent success under Day, who has maintained a remarkable 45-6 record while sending numerous first-round picks to the NFL, as evidence of the program’s ability to develop professional-ready talent.

The Cardinals’ appreciation for Ohio State players aligns with a league-wide recognition of certain college programs that consistently produce NFL-ready prospects. As Arizona continues rebuilding under Ossenfort’s leadership, the pipeline from Columbus to Arizona appears likely to remain active.
