𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐃: Brisbane Broncos Coach Michael Maguire Reveals Players Set to Leave After 2025 Season

Brisbane Broncos head coach Michael Maguire has confirmed a major shake-up in the team’s roster, announcing the departure of several players once the 2025 NRL season concludes. In a press conference held at Red Hill on Wednesday morning, Maguire acknowledged that the club is undergoing a “strategic realignment” in preparation for the future. While specific names were initially withheld, club insiders have since revealed a list of seasoned players and rising stars who are set to part ways with the Broncos.

Among those confirmed to leave are veteran prop Corey Jensen, dynamic utility Kobe Hetherington, and winger Jesse Arthars. The trio have been key contributors in recent seasons, but Maguire indicated the club is moving in a younger direction, prioritizing long-term sustainability over short-term comfort. “These are extremely tough decisions,” Maguire said. “Each of these players has worn the Broncos jersey with pride, but as we look to evolve and stay competitive in the years ahead, change is necessary.”

The decision has stirred a wave of emotions among fans and teammates alike. Jensen, who has been a cornerstone in the Broncos forward pack since joining from the Cowboys, expressed disappointment but gratitude. “This club means everything to me, and while it’s hard to say goodbye, I respect the direction the team is heading,” he said. Arthars, known for his athletic finishes and work ethic, also shared heartfelt words about his time in Brisbane, calling it a “special chapter” in his career.

Maguire emphasized that the exit of these players is not a reflection of poor performance but rather part of a bigger roster management plan. With a new crop of talent rising through the Broncos development pipeline—including teenage standouts like Keano Kini and Blake Mozer—the coaching staff is aiming to build a fast, flexible, and formidable team capable of challenging for titles in the next era. “We have faith in the young blood coming through, and we’re positioning ourselves to strike hard in 2026 and beyond,” Maguire stated.

This announcement comes amid speculation that Brisbane is planning a significant recruitment drive heading into the 2026 season, with rumors linking the club to high-profile targets including an unnamed New South Wales State of Origin player and a current Super League standout. The departures will also free up cap space, giving the Broncos greater flexibility in pursuing marquee signings and retaining key younger players whose contracts are nearing renewal.

As the 2025 season unfolds, all eyes will be on how the departing players perform in their final campaign wearing maroon and gold. Despite the looming exits, Maguire reassured fans that the team remains united and focused. “There’s still a job to finish this year,” he concluded. “We’re chasing something special, and these players will give everything until their final day in Broncos colours.”
