BREAKING: 4-Star OT Deacon Schmitt Commits to Oklahoma

A major recruiting win for the Oklahoma Sooners, four-star offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt has officially committed to OU. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman from Windsor, Colorado, made his decision public today, ending speculation surrounding one of the top offensive linemen in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Schmitt chose Oklahoma over several notable programs, including Colorado, which had been considered a strong contender throughout his recruitment.

Schmitt is ranked as the No. 37 offensive tackle in the 2026 class and holds the distinction of being the No. 2 overall player in the state of Colorado, according to Rivals. His size, footwork, and raw strength have made him a standout on the field, and he has consistently impressed scouts and coaches with his ability to dominate in both pass protection and run blocking. His commitment is another statement from the Sooners, who continue to strengthen their offensive line unit under head coach Brent Venables.

Oklahoma’s offensive line tradition played a key role in Schmitt’s decision. With a long history of producing NFL-caliber linemen and a coaching staff known for developing talent in the trenches, the Sooners present an ideal landing spot for a player of Schmitt’s caliber. He cited the coaching staff’s vision, the development pipeline, and the culture in Norman as major factors in his commitment.

The Sooners have been aggressive on the recruiting trail for the 2026 class, and Schmitt’s commitment could have a ripple effect. A player of his stature and national profile can help attract other elite prospects to join him in Norman. Already, social media has buzzed with reactions from fans and fellow recruits, many of whom see Schmitt’s decision as a signal of OU’s upward trajectory.

For Colorado, Schmitt’s decision is a tough loss. The Buffs had hoped to keep the in-state talent close to home, especially given head coach Deion Sanders’ push to lock down top recruits within the region. Despite a strong effort, it appears Oklahoma’s consistency and national prominence ultimately tipped the scales in their favor.

As Schmitt prepares for his senior season at Windsor High School, all eyes will be on the towering lineman as he aims to refine his game even further. With his commitment to Oklahoma now official, he can focus on continuing his dominance on the field while preparing for the next chapter of his football journey in Norman.
