Texas Red Tech University has officially revealed the date for honoring two of its most celebrated alumni — Donny Anderson and his brother, Johnny Agan. The special tribute is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 12th, 2025, during the university’s annual Legends Weekend celebration. The event promises to be a historic reunion as the iconic brothers return to the Red Raiders’ grounds for the first time in over two decades, sparking excitement among fans, alumni, and current players alike.

Donny Anderson, famously known as the “Golden Palomino,” carved his name in Texas Tech lore during the mid-1960s with his electrifying performances as a running back and punter. A two-time All-American and a top pick in the 1965 NFL Draft, Donny’s legacy still echoes through the halls of the university. His younger brother, Johnny Agan, a lesser-known but equally respected contributor to the Red Raiders’ football program in the early 1970s, has long stood as a quiet pillar in supporting Texas Tech’s athletic heritage.

The ceremonial weekend will feature a range of events, including a public meet-and-greet, a jersey unveiling ceremony, and halftime honors during the Red Raiders’ home game against Oklahoma State. Sources close to the university’s athletic department say a bronze plaque commemorating the Anderson-Agan legacy will also be installed at Jones AT&T Stadium, immortalizing the brothers’ contribution to Texas Tech history.

Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt expressed his pride in hosting the legends, stating, “Donny and Johnny represent everything Texas Tech stands for — resilience, excellence, and tradition. Their return is not just a celebration of football, but of family, character, and what it means to wear the scarlet and black.” Hocutt hinted that this ceremony may be one of the largest and most emotional tributes the university has staged in years.

Both brothers have issued statements expressing their excitement. Donny, now 81, said, “It’s a blessing to be remembered, and to come home with my brother to the place that gave us everything — that’s something special.” Johnny added, “We’re coming back not just to relive old memories, but to inspire the next generation of Red Raiders. Texas Tech is in our blood.”

As October approaches, the university community is bracing for an unforgettable weekend. Students are already planning tributes, while the alumni association has launched a campaign called “Legends Live Forever,” encouraging fans to share memories, photos, and stories of Donny and Johnny. For Red Raiders past and present, October 12th won’t just mark a date on the calendar — it will be a moment of pride, legacy, and deep Red Raider spirit.
