Aaron Rodgers recently met with the New York Jets to discuss his future, though several uncertainties remain. The Jets are currently searching for a new general manager and head coach, adding complexity to Rodgers’ situation. At 41 years old and following a disappointing 5-12 season, Rodgers’ future with the team is uncertain, despite being under contract for another year.
Rodgers mentioned he had a brief conversation with team owner Woody Johnson after the season, but his decision to return will largely depend on the team’s upcoming hires. “I think everyone understands it will come down to a GM, a coach, and myself, and whether we all want to work together or if it’s not meant to be,” Rodgers said Thursday on the “Pat McAfee Show.”
Last season, Rodgers started every game for the Jets, throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Coming off an Achilles injury, Rodgers no longer appears to be the MVP-caliber player he was in Green Bay. However, the Jets lack a clear alternative at quarterback. Backup Tyrod Taylor is under contract for another year, and fifth-round pick Jordan Travis, who is recovering from a leg injury sustained at the end of his college career at Florida State, may also be a contender for the role.
