Óquei de Barcelos, after winning 2-0, was unable to go beyond a draw against Noia.
FC Porto and Benfica were the two Portuguese teams that today secured triumphs in the second round of the group stage of the roller hockey Champions League, while Óquei de Barcelos and Oliveirense drew and Valongo lost.
FC Porto, which was coming off a morale-boosting victory against Benfica, in a match counting for the national championship, performed at its best with a triumph at St. Omer. In the first round, those led by Ricardo Ares suffered a defeat against Óquei de Barcelos.
In this Group A match, the ‘dragons’ started well and, after 10 minutes, took the lead with a goal from Rafa.
At the start of the second half, FC Porto won again, this time through Carlo di Benedetto, but the French team reduced it with Federico Balmacena. Gonçalo Alves recovered the difference with another goal for the ‘blue and whites’ and in the final stretch of the match, St. Omer also made the Porto fans ‘tremble’ with a goal scored by Léo Savreux.
In the same group, Óquei de Barcelos, after winning 2-0, could not go beyond a draw against Noia. The Minho team scored very close to half-time, through Poka and Danilo Rampulla. But, in the second half, the Spanish started better and, very close to the end, tied the match with goals from Jordi Bargalló and Xavi Costa.
Closing the accounts, Réus beat Barcelona 5-4 at home, in a very balanced match.
In this group, Óquei de Barcelos and Noia lead, with four points, followed by Barcelona, Reus and FC Porto, all with three, while St. Omer hasn’t scored yet.
In Group B, Benfica thrashed Quevert with five unanswered goals. Zé Miranda scored twice in the first half, taking the match to halftime with a two-goal lead. In the second half, the Reds pressed again, an attitude that allowed Pau Bargalló (2) and Lucas Ordonez to score.
Oliveirense secured an important draw at home to Nuno Resende’s Liceo. Oliveira de Azeméis’ team was surprised early by the Spanish and César Carballeira scored with a penalty in the 10th minute.
The same player could have increased the lead at the beginning of the second half, also with a penalty, however, this time, Xano Edo saved. However, in the 41st minute, Marc Torra handed the Portuguese team a draw.
Renato Garrido’s Valongo, after losing at Luz in the first round, suffered defeat again, this time at home to the Italians of Trissino (3-1) and remain at the bottom of the group led by Benfica. The Portuguese team’s goal was scored by Tiago Maló.
Benfica has six points, the same as Trissino, with Oliveirense in third, with four, and Liceo in fourth, with one, while Valongo and Quévert have not yet scored.
