The Georgia Bulldogs are well aware of the challenge they face when they square off against the Notre Dame football team. Ahead of the Sugar Bowl, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart spoke to the media on Monday, focusing on one standout player from the Fighting Irish defense: freshman defensive end Bryce Young.

Smart praised Young for his impressive performance, noting that he showed up frequently on film during preparation. “To do what he’s done this early in his career just shows you how talented he’s going to be,” Smart said. Young, who has played a significant role despite being a true freshman, is expected to take on an even bigger responsibility in the Sugar Bowl due to injuries on Notre Dame’s defensive front. While his stats may not be eye-popping, his performance has been solid, especially considering his limited experience.

Smart also highlighted Young’s versatility, noting that he has impressed at several positions. “He is long, athletic, and twitchy,” Smart observed, adding that Young’s impact extends beyond defense. “He’s phenomenal on special teams, his reach, his athleticism.” Smart emphasized that Young’s ability to make plays in multiple areas shows his potential for the future.

With 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks on the season, including a sack against Indiana, Young is a player to watch in Wednesday’s matchup.
