The NFL has fined Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson $45,022 for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during last week’s game against the Commanders.
The penalties resulted in an automatic ejection, sending Gardner-Johnson to the locker room early in the third quarter. This adds to his disciplinary record for the season, which includes three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and one unnecessary roughness penalty. His total fines for 2024 now stand at $101,298.
While the exact actions leading to the penalties are unclear, it’s likely Gardner-Johnson directed inappropriate comments either toward officials or Commanders players. After being escorted off the sideline, he was seen raising both middle fingers to the Commanders crowd as he walked toward the tunnel.
The Eagles were without Gardner-Johnson for the remainder of the game, and the Commanders took advantage, scoring three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The last of those came with just six seconds remaining, handing the Eagles a surprising loss.
