An Honor to Jennifer Rocha: Oklahoma Sooners Softball Unveils the Statue of Award-Winning Assistant Coach Jennifer Rocha

The University of Oklahoma unveiled a statue in honor of award-winning assistant coach Jennifer Rocha. The ceremony, held just outside Love’s Field in Norman, drew an emotional crowd of alumni, fans, and current players — all gathered to celebrate a woman who has played a pivotal role in one of the most dominant programs in college softball history.

Jennifer Rocha, known for her brilliant pitching mind and unmatched dedication, has been an essential figure in the Sooners’ recent era of championship dominance. Having served as the pitching coach and associate head coach under the legendary Patty Gasso, Rocha helped guide Oklahoma to multiple Women’s College World Series titles. Her expertise transformed the Sooners’ pitching staff into one of the most feared units in the nation, consistently leading the NCAA in ERA, strikeouts, and overall dominance on the mound.

Rocha’s statue joins those of other Oklahoma softball icons, signifying not only her legacy but also the university’s recognition of assistant coaches who shape championship cultures behind the scenes. During the unveiling, Coach Gasso delivered a heartfelt speech, recalling Rocha’s deep love for the game and her unwavering commitment to excellence. “Jennifer isn’t just a coach — she’s a mentor, a leader, and the soul of our pitching circle. Her impact will be felt for generations,” Gasso said.

Rocha, clearly moved by the moment, addressed the crowd with tears in her eyes. “This is more than I ever dreamed of,” she said. “To be recognized in this way, by a program I’ve given my heart to, means everything. I’ve always believed in empowering young women through softball, and I’m so proud to have played a part in building something special here at OU.” Her message resonated deeply with many current and former players in attendance, many of whom credited Rocha with shaping not just their athletic success but their growth as people.

The statue itself captures Rocha in a poised coaching stance, glove under one arm, ready to guide a young pitcher through another critical moment. Crafted by a local artist with ties to the university, the monument stands as a symbol of perseverance, preparation, and quiet leadership. It’s a rare honor for an assistant coach, but one that reflects Rocha’s extraordinary influence on the Sooners’ dynasty.

As Oklahoma continues its legacy of excellence on the softball diamond, the presence of Jennifer Rocha’s statue will serve as a reminder of the unsung heroes who build champions. Her story is not just about softball — it’s about dedication, loyalty, and the power of mentorship. For generations of Sooners, Rocha’s legacy is now etched in bronze, a permanent fixture in the story of one of the greatest programs in collegiate sports.
