BOMBSHELL NEWS: New York Islanders Star Anders Lee Invests $6.3 Million to Transform Personal Residence Into Shelter for Homeless Youth in Long Island

An extraordinary display of compassion and social responsibility, New York Islanders captain Anders Lee has announced that he is converting his personal residence into a shelter for homeless youth in Long Island. The $6.3 million investment, fully funded by Lee himself, aims to provide safe housing, mental health resources, education support, and job readiness training to vulnerable young people across the region. The news has sent shockwaves through the sports world and beyond, drawing admiration from fans, activists, and fellow athletes alike.

Lee, a veteran forward known for his leadership on the ice, has long been involved in charitable work, particularly in support of children and youth facing hardship. However, this bold step signals a new chapter in his philanthropic journey. “It’s more than a shelter — it’s a sanctuary for those who’ve been overlooked,” Lee said in a press conference on Thursday. “These kids deserve a fighting chance, and I want this space to be where hope begins again.”

The facility, which is being named The Beacon House, will accommodate up to 35 residents at a time and include an on-site staff of licensed social workers, counselors, and volunteers. Renovations are already underway, transforming the luxurious mansion into a warm, functional, and welcoming space. Features will include shared living quarters, private therapy rooms, a learning lab with internet access, and even a small indoor rink for recreation and team-building activities.

Community leaders have lauded Lee’s initiative as an unprecedented move among professional athletes. “This is a game-changer for Long Island,” said Alicia Reynolds, director of the Suffolk County Youth Services Bureau. “Anders isn’t just writing a check. He’s repurposing a piece of his life to help others rebuild theirs.” The Islanders organization also expressed pride in their captain’s commitment, noting that it reflects the values of both the team and the wider NHL community.

Despite the scope of the project, Lee has made it clear that this is just the beginning. He’s also establishing a foundation to raise additional funds for youth housing programs across New York State and plans to partner with local high schools, nonprofits, and healthcare providers to create long-term support systems for shelter residents. “No one makes it out of hardship alone,” he said. “I want to make sure this isn’t a moment — it’s a movement.”

As the NHL offseason continues, Anders Lee’s remarkable gesture has not only reignited conversations about athletes using their platforms for good, but also set a new standard for what true leadership looks like — on and off the ice. For dozens of young people in Long Island, The Beacon House may well become the turning point in lives that, until now, seemed forgotten.
