The Grimm Legacy Lives On: Peacock Reveals a Full-Length Film Reboot

Fans of dark fairy tales and supernatural intrigue have reason to celebrate, as NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock has officially announced a feature-length movie reboot of the beloved television series Grimm. Titled Grimm: The Legacy, the film is set to reintroduce viewers to the enthralling world of Wesen and the protectors known as Grimms. The original series, which ran from 2011 to 2017, built a passionate fan base through its unique blend of folklore, police procedural, and urban fantasy. Now, the story is poised for a thrilling revival.

Peacock’s announcement arrives amid a broader industry trend of mining nostalgia to breathe new life into established franchises. Unlike many reboots that start from scratch, Grimm: The Legacy will continue the narrative arc established by the original series. It will reportedly pick up several years after the show’s finale, offering fans both closure and new mysteries. The film aims to maintain the dark tone and mythological depth that made Grimm a cult hit, while also introducing fresh characters and conflicts to attract new viewers.

The movie reboot will feature the return of several original cast members, including David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt, the Portland detective-turned-Grimm who battles supernatural creatures hiding in plain sight. Giuntoli, now also serving as executive producer, expressed excitement about returning to the role. “This universe still has so much story left to tell,” he said in a press release. “We’re diving deeper into the legacy of Grimms and the forces that threaten to unbalance the world they protect.”

New characters will be introduced as well, including a younger generation of Grimms navigating a post-Wesen-reveal world. With the series finale hinting at a future where Wesen are no longer entirely hidden, the movie will explore the tension between human and Wesen communities and the evolving role of Grimms as peacekeepers. This generational angle offers a fresh perspective while remaining faithful to the show’s core mythology.

Behind the scenes, many of the original creative minds are back on board. David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, the original showrunners, are returning as writers and producers, ensuring continuity in tone and storytelling. Production is slated to begin later this year, with a premiere expected sometime in 2026. Peacock is positioning the film as both a standalone experience and a potential launchpad for further projects within the Grimm universe, including spin-offs or an eventual series revival.

As streaming platforms increasingly look for strong, established IPs to drive subscriptions and engagement, Grimm: The Legacy seems poised to cast its spell once again. With a dedicated fanbase, rich world-building, and an experienced creative team, this reboot offers a promising return to the shadows where fairy tales aren’t just real—they’re dangerous. Whether you’re a long-time viewer or a curious newcomer, the Grimm legacy is alive and well, and it’s ready to be rediscovered.
