Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston has agreed to a new two-year contract that will pay him $1.55 million annually, making him the highest-paid assistant coach in the history of the Buffaloes’ football program, according to sources. The deal comes after a transformative 2024 season in which Livingston dramatically improved Colorado’s defense, earning interest from both college and NFL teams. The news was first reported by Brian Howell.

Livingston’s impact on the Buffaloes’ defense was undeniable last season. Under his leadership, the unit saw significant improvements in key statistical categories, including points allowed, turnovers forced, and third-down efficiency. His innovative schemes and ability to develop talent were instrumental in Colorado’s resurgence as a competitive force in the Pac-12. Head coach Deion Sanders repeatedly praised Livingston throughout the season, highlighting his dedication and strategic acumen.

“Robert has been a game-changer for us,” Sanders said during a press conference earlier this year. “His ability to connect with players, his attention to detail, and his relentless work ethic have elevated our defense to new heights. He’s not just a great coach; he’s a great leader.”

The new contract reflects both Livingston’s value to the program and the university’s commitment to retaining top-tier coaching talent. At $1.55 million per year, the deal underscores the importance of continuity as Colorado aims to build on its recent success. Livingston’s decision to stay in Boulder also signals his belief in the program’s long-term vision under Sanders’ leadership.

With Livingston locked in for the next two years, the Buffaloes are poised to maintain their defensive prowess and continue their ascent in college football. For Livingston, the historic contract is a well-deserved recognition of his contributions and a testament to his rising stock in the coaching world.
